To encourage participation in local elections, the City of Winnipeg provides

rebates to eligible individuals who donate to registered mayoral and council

candidates.

 

The rebate is calculated this way:

• For contributions between $25 and $300, the cash rebate is 75% . For example, if you gave $100 you will receive a rebate $75.

• For contributions between $301 and $750, the rebate is $225 plus 50% of the difference between the contribution and $300.

 

A few important notes:

• Contributions must come from individuals. Corporations and unions cannot donate to municipal campaigns in Winnipeg.

• You must be a resident of the Province of Manitoba to contribute.

• All contributions over $250 to a single candidate are publicly disclosed as required by law.

• Contributions of less than $25 will not receive a rebate.
